Warturtle Resources Issues

Posted by DrakNet @ 6:00 pm on June 24, 2009

Warturtle has had a crash both yesterday and today from a few resource intensive sites that are using a large amount of the system resources. We’re taking it offline now to do an emergency memory upgrade (we’ll be adding two gigs of RAM), and will be moving two of the most resource intensive sites to another server with a much larger amount of RAM. If that doesn’t fix the issue, we’ll go up to 8 Gigs, but as that particular server maxes out at 8 Gigs as its one of our older ones, we may be looking at a box upgrade to address the issue.

To all my high resource sites – please remember you are limited in what percentage of the server you are allowed to use in the terms of service. Many of you are getting away with an enormous amount of resource usage, and we have begun in the last month charging and/or suspending for that usage when it far, far outstrips what you are allotted. We will give you an opportunity to address it before you are charged, but if you ignore our emails, we will begin charging if the server can handle it, or if its causing problems for others, we will suspend the site.

Please remember your bandwidth usage has nothing to do with your resource usage – we have 200 Gig/m sites that don’t come up on our radar, and 1 Gig/m sites that code without thought and really make the server grind out.

DrakNet is externally monitored by Hyperspin. Uptime is measured every 60 seconds and is uneditable/unable to be reset. If you wish to view the public report on Hyperspin's servers to confirm accuracy, you may visit the URL by clicking here. Overall uptime is accurate beginning June 24, 2007 to the present. Uptime monitoring is kept on during maintenance for an accurate uptime count relative to the client experience.

DrakNet will post minor service notices to Twitter, and major technical information requiring expanded explanations to the blog.
